Overview
DMAE (dimethylaminoethanol) is a nutritional precursor to acetylcholine, a key neurotransmitter in the brain. This neurotransmitter is required for normal, healthy brain function. DMAE has been reported to have nootropic effects. Nootropic, from the Greek word nous (mind) and trepein (bend), effects are supplements, functional foods, and drugs that promote memory and cognitive enhancing properties improving mental functions such as cognition, memory, intelligence, motivation, attention, and concentration. DMAE increases the levels of acetylcholine in the brain which plays a crucial role in higher cognitive functions such as memory and learning. Therefore, DMAE may be helpful in improving memory and cognitive capacity. It has also been shown to increase energy levels. Research indicates positive benefits for dreaming and mood stabilization as well.
